Elsie Fern Black Lewis, age 93, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Ridgeway Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.

 

She was born October 2, 1928, in Rowan County, to the late John Milligan Black and Sarilda Margaret Royce Black.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Black, James Milligan Black, and Marvin Clay Black, and three sisters, Nina Mae Conley, Anna Lee Lovejoy, and Olive Ingle.

 

Her husband of 66 years, Durward B. Lewis, whom she wed July 3, 1948, preceded her in death on April 26, 2015.

 

Mrs. Lewis is survived two sons, Rickey Lewis and wife Katha and Glennis B. Lewis, all of Hillsboro; one daughter, Gekita Fawns and husband Kenny of Owingsville; nine grandchildren, Chad Williams, Tracy Vice, Eric Lewis, Ashley Glover, Glennissa Lewis, Whitney Caskey, Cody Wayne Lewis, Lacy Fawns, and Trinity Cooper; 28 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

 

Other survivors include two sisters, Daisy Odell Weaver of Bradner, Ohio, and Margaret DeHart of Flemingsburg; a special caregiver, Donna Jent; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

 

She was a homemaker and was an employee of Dollar General in Flemingsburg for more than 20 years.

 

Elsie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished her family. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
