Elsie Caroline Haagensen, 88, formerly of Leonore and Peru, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2011 at Heritage Manor of LaSalle where she had resided for the past ten years. Elsie was born September 13, 1922 in her family farm house in Leonore, IL to Jens and Karen (Ipsen) Haagensen of Denmark.
Elsie was of Danish decent and completely devoted her life to her family, working side by side with her father on the farm from sunrise to sunset. Her other devotion, above all, was to God. Elsie was a devout Lutheran and lived her entire life until the end according to the word of God and the life of Jesus. She was a former member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Leonore and currently a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Peru. Elsie was a lifelong donator to many charities such as Food for the Poor and The Salvation Army.
In her later years, she began to donate her entire monthly income to charities religiously every month. She was recently honored with a Certificate of Recognition from The Salvation Army for her devotion to charity. Elsie had an extremely close relationship with her family and with God and there is no doubt that she is reunited with all of them again. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and her loving sister, Helga Haagensen. She will be missed by all her friends of St. Johns Lutheran Church, the staff of Heritage Manor of LaSalle and all who knew her.
