Elsie M. (Hudson) Benham, 101, of Solsberry passed away December 18, 2009 at the Bloomington Hospital.

Born, February 29, 1908 in Monroe County she was the daughter of George and Mattie (Baxter) Hudson. Elsie went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a life wrapped in their love for 101 years. She never wanted for anything. Her riches and wealth came from the blessings God provided her. The innocence and purity Elsie began life with, was something she sustained throughout. She kept life simple and her joy came from giving of herself. A visitor was always welcome. There was always a garden to share, beautiful flowers to admire, and a warm meal to offer.

Everyone left with a “fullness” of what life should be. There will be so much more than stories and recipes passed on. This faith carried her through a century of changes. Elsie spent many hours a day studying the Bible and praying. One of her favorite verses was John 3:16, which says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” She believed that at death, the physical body returns to dust , and the soul of the believer is welcomed into heaven. Without question, Elsie has an eternal life of peace with her husband Harold Benham, son James Benham, daughter Jeraldine Benham, and grandson Stuart Henline. Elsie would have us remember one thing: know Jesus, live, walk, trust and rest in Him. Her family cherishes the memories of her faithful love for all, which was rooted in God’s faithful love for her.

Her extensive family that she was so proud of includes her son Thomas Benham (Suzie), daughters Barbara Campbell (Earl), Joyce Owen, and Julia Reeves (Steve). Her grandchildren Shan Henline, Brent Owen, Brad Owen, Timmy Campbell, Julie Stines, Andy Campbell, Tony Benham, Stephanie Benham, Natalie David. Elsie was blessed with several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and her devoted caregiver Heather Agan.
