Elsa Burkhardt, age 92, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at her home in Newnan. She was born on December 20, 1923, in Langeneb Germany to the late Fritz Haas and Christine Haas.
Along with her parents, Elsa was preceded in death by her husband Walter F. Burkhardt, Son Ronald G. Burkhardt, brother Fritz, and sister Louise. She is survived by her sister Bertha and daughter Gail Pizar (Michael), 2 granddaughters Renee Reeves (Alan) and Danielle Weir (Bobby), and 7 Great Grandchildren, Dylan, Anniston, Hayden, Landen, Whitley, Bobby, and Casen. She and her family immigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old. She became a US Citizen in 1947. After her children were grown, she went back to school and earned her LPN degree. Elsa loved gardening and being outdoors and volunteered at the Hendersonville NC Arboretum. In recent years Elsa lived in Wesley Woods and had many friends there.
