Elmore “Woodsie” Shipp was born on February 4, 1944 in Lincoln County, North Carolina to Jennie Shipp. He departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at his home at 213 Newbold Street Lincolnton, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Shipp, father, Elmore Edwards, special aunt , Mary Boyd, brother, Richard Edwards, and two nephews, one niece, one great-nephew.

Elmore attended Newbold High School. He was a brick mason. He worked at Edmos, Maiden Knit, and various construction jobs. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He raised a special nephew, Howard Gillespie Jr. , as his son.  He enjoyed making others laugh and listening to music, feeding his cats, and riding his scooter. Woodsie enjoyed having his wife make him banana pudding and potato salad. He was a great softball and baseball player, hitting many homeruns. One of Elmore’s favorite saying was “Two Faced Committee”.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, his loving devoted wife, Myrtle Evans Shipp of 50 years. His brothers, Thomas (Jackie) Shipp of Hayward, California, Lewis (Lisa) Shipp of Morganton, NC. , Three sisters, Loretta “Candy” Shipp , Sallie “Cookie” Shipp of Lincolnton, NC. and Ann Edwards of Greensboro, NC. One Aunt, Carol Mundy of Washington, DC., Three Sister-in-laws, Maggie Evans and Alberta Hall of Lincolnton, NC and Carolyn Evans of Richmond, Virginia. Two special nephews, Butch Harris, of Lincolnton, NC and Anthony Shipp, Of Charlotte, NC., one special niece, Khadijah Evans of Lincolnton, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
