Elmo A. Prejean, 78 went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 18, 2012.
He was born on October 7th 1933 in Carencro; LA. Elmo served his country in the Korean War, and was a veteran of the US Navy. He lived in Silver City though various years but called Silver City his home for the past 31 years. Elmo loved his family and loved to spend time with them. He loved his grandchildren so much and enjoyed the times when he could have all of them together at once. He enjoyed trying to teach his grandkids the alphabet and numbers in French. He also had a love for the Bayou and the Cajun Culture and enjoyed cooking Cajun and Mexican food.
He also enjoyed going to mass at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he sang in the choir with his granddaughter Jazmine. He enjoyed watching novelas with his wife Juanita. Elmo was probably best known by as “The Bread Man” or “The Rainbo Bread Man”, and a “Coonass” by some. Elmo worked for and retired from the Rainbo Bread Co. in 1998. He made many a friend along the way. He will also be remembered for his love of jokes and practical jokes. He loved making people laugh and smile. He was loved and admired by many people. He will mostly be remembered for his generosity. Weather it was his time that he donated in his later years or the breads, tortillas, snacks cakes, ect. That he donated to various charities, religious organizations or just people in need.
He was preceded in death by his mother Estelle, his father Clarence, his brother Lester, and his sisters Anna May, Mary Lou, Jane and Maude, and his very good friend of 30 plus years, Charles Shaw.
He survived by his wife Juanita of Silver City, and his eldest John and his wife Elaine of Silver City, his daughter Josie and her fiancé Phil of Phoenix, AZ, and his youngest Jerry of Ft. Bliss, TX, his two daughters and son from Guam, Estelle, Carol Jane and Michael.
He survived by his 13 grandchildren; Matthew, Jessica, Michael Jr., Melissa, Aaron, Jazmine, Amanda, Aubree, Jerry Jr., Joshua, Victoria, John John and Anthony and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many, many other family members and friends. “We shall not mourn your loss but celebrate your life instead.
