Elmer John “Nig” DeWinter, son of Nicholas and Wilhelmina (Klyn) DeWinter, was born on June 1, 1916 in Pella, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday evening, July 15, 2008, at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care at the age of ninety-two.
As a child Elmer attended school in the Pella area, graduating from Pella High School in 1935. He then attended Central College for one year.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Carrie; son Allan and his wife Debbie DeWinter of Colorado and their three children Rebecca, Jennifer, and Bryan De Winter; a son David DeWinter of Georgia; one sister, Ota Margaret Champagne of, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Andrew, Willard, Arthur, and Charles DeWinter; and his sisters: Anna Mae Roorda and Viola Butler.
