Ellsworth Eugene “Gene” Peterson, was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Parma, Idaho, to Dale and Beulah Peterson. A life-long resident of Parma, God called him home on June 2, 2011. Gene served his country for two years in the Army during the Korean War, and later worked for the Notus-Parma Highway District for 28 years, culminating his career as District Supervisor before his retirement in 1991. Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt birds and game, especially the squirrels that were stealing the nuts on his walnut trees. He would often take the family camping to any one of his favorite lakes, where he enjoyed fishing with his father, brother and sons. A passionate gardener, he cultivated a lush, productive garden every year for 40 years.
