Ellis Matilda Jackson was born on February 10th, 1934 to the parents of Millicent Dummett and Beresford Wason in the Bronx, New York. She was the youngest of four sisters, Lillian Jones, Millicent Seeley and Violet Coaker. Ellis is preceded by her father, who passed in 1966, and her mother, who passed in 1988, and her three older sisters, all also deceased.
A highly accomplished woman, Ellis received her entire education in New York. She graduated from Central Commercial High School and went on to receive her Associates in Arts Degree at Nassau Community College. Finally, she earned her B.A. in Social Work from York College and her Masters in Social Work at Hunter College. After earning her degrees, Ellis worked at Creed-moor Office of Mental Health (OMH) for over 10 years as a Clinical Social Worker (CSW) before finally retiring in 1997.
She married Clarence William Jackson on August 10th, 1958 and they resided in Long Island, New York where they had two children Keven and Keeva. Their births were two of the happiest days of her life.
She was a blessed and devoted servant of the Lord.
Her greatest hardship in her life was finding out she was going blind. But she found solace in going to the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Center where the program got her out of the house and she engaged in meaningful activities for people who are visually impaired like herself.
Ellis spent quality time with her Keeva traveling the world or just a simple trip to the grocery store. One of the fondest memories was the simple pleasures of sitting in her chair while Keeva pushed her up and down the boardwalk at the beach while they laughed and shared life stories. She would love how the sun hit her eyes. This is one of the last outings she had with her daughter. Keeva was her “rock” and best friend.
Ellis cherished her grandchildren and would love when all her grandchildren were present to enjoy a holiday meal.
She leaves to cherish her life, children and spouses, Keven and Joanne Jackson and Keeva and Everett Breland. Her grandchildren and spouses, Julian and Kéa Jackson and their son Jace Kobé, Jordan and Naomi Jackson, and Sydné Jackson. She also leaves behind nephews, Curtis Seeley and Alvin Coaker.
Ellis was a fiercely proud and independent woman, a kind soul, and loving mother. Mom, you are a formidable woman and will be sorely missed!
