Ellen M. Meredith (Nee: Rose), of Cherry Hill, formerly of Burlington Township, passed away peacefully, Wednesday January 27, 2021 at The Samaritan Center in Voorhees at the age of 87. Ellen was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late John Emmett Rose and Roberta Alice Rose (Née: Tompkins) before becoming a New Jersey resident. Ellen was a strong, independent, motivated hard working woman. She worked various jobs throughout her life, but retired as a Supervisor at the Mt. Holly Children’s Home after many, many years of dedicated service.
An avid reader, she collected many books where she would often leave small notes between the pages and highlight her favorite quotes, she also enjoyed reading scriptures from her bible daily. She loved gardening and tending to her plants, especially her “Jersey” tomatoes, which she grew anywhere. She was a lady with a green thumb, but also with a twitch to smell the salt air and hit AC for the fun of casinos, boardwalk & beach or LBI for her yearly family vacations where she loved to lounge on the beach, swim in the ocean and just be with her children.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved planning parties and shopping for special gifts for all. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she enjoyed riding around looking at the lights. She not only raised her 3 children, but was “Mom” to many, a best friend, a caretaker with a generous, caring, giving heart. She Always found the means to feed those who were hungry, clothe those who were in need or help the oppressed, standing up for rights of others and being a voice for those who were unable to speak or stand up for themselves.
She was very friendly to all she met, greeting them with a big smile and known by all in her community. She was outgoing, having friends of ALL ages, which kept her young at heart and aware of current trends. Ellen was predeceased by her brother Robert Rose. She is survived by her son William S. “Hayes” Meredith; 2 daughters: Sandra M. Meredith (Rick Gennello), Ellen “L” Meredith; a grandson: Willam S. Meredith II and a granddaughter: Ashley L. Shively.
