Ms. Ellen Virginia (Drake) Davidson, 100 years, 8 months young, was our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on September 26, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Virginia was born and raised in Birmingham and resided in Norwood for many years, attending Phillips High School. She was a member of the Bloomer Girls, and Ladies’ Basketball team at Phillips High School. Later, she and her husband located to Center Point. She worked with Progressive Farmer magazine and WMU until her retirement. Virginia was an avid gardener, traveler, and fisherwoman. She also held the honor of being the oldest living member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Albert Davidson, Sr. and daughter Patricia (Davidson) Donaldson of Trussville. She is survived by her sons Jim “Beany” Davidson, Jr. (wife, Vera), Hubert Vance “Dock” Davidson (wife Olean), daughter Delores (Davidson) Mathews (husband, Gary). She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
