Mrs. Taylor was born in Morgan County, AL on March 29, 1932 to the late Geneva and Anderson Harris. She departed this life Friday, August 14, 2015 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.

She obtained her formal education in Decatur and graduated from Decatur Negro High School in 1951. She was employed by Decatur City Schools at Somerville Road which she retired after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Taylor confessed her love for Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh M.B. Church under the leadership of the Reverend M.C. Cosby.  She served faithfully in the choir and maintained her love for Christ while her health declined.  Her family has been connected to the Shiloh Church for over 100 plus years.

Ella Mary Taylor, a woman of great strength and determination lived her life dedicated to providing a stable home for her children.  She was the family matriarch who was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, best cook and devoted friend.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memory: two daughters, Mary Jones (Chris) and Sarah Shackelford (Coynis) of Decatur; five sons, Eddie Taylor (Vicki), Franklin Taylor (Linda), Ronald Taylor, Dennis Taylor and David Taylor (Evelyn) all of Decatur; 23 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; and special friends, Grady Stewart and Bessie Sanders and a host of other relatives and friends.
