Mrs. Jones peacefully passed away at a local hospital. She is the widow of the late Dr. Howard Haggler, former Pastor of Logan Temple A.M.E.

Ella Mae Jones Haggler was born June 6, 1946 in Sherman, TX to loving parents, Morris Emanuel, Sr. and Ella Kate Cravens Emanuel. At a young age, Ella and the family moved to Oakland, CA where she attended Harbor Home Elementary, Laurel Jr. High and graduated from McClymonds High School.

In 1965, Ella united in marriage with Luther Virgil Jones of the United States Navy. Shortly afterwards, Luther, Ella and her daughter, Lavett moved to San Diego, CA compliments of the United States Navy. After thirty-eight years of marriage, Luther was called home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2003.

Ella, who was known for being a strong, hardworking woman, worked several years at the Hilton Hotel in Pacific Beach, where she rose to the position of Manager. She also worked with the San Diego Unified School District as a Teacher’s Aid for preschoolers. During the late 1970s, she began working for a board and care facility, where she was trained for a management position. Years later, Ella established and successfully operated “Kates Independent Guest Home”, which was named after her beloved mother.

In April of 2004, Ella married Reverend Dr. Howard E. Haggler, Sr. who was the Presiding Elder in the San Diego District and Pastor of Logan Temple A.M.E.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cecilia Mae Pitts; brothers, Billy Roy Emanuel and Morris Emanuel, Jr. and grandson, Damian Lamont Briscoe, Sr.

On Monday, June 9, 2014, Ella Mae Jones Haggler was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Lavett Johnson and her fiancAC., Vernell Gillard; granddaughters, Dynisha Pauu and her husband, Taluai Pauu and Thea Matthews and her fiancAC., Willie Carter; six great-grandchildren, Damian Lamont Briscoe, Jr., Dynah Pauu, Davina Pauu, Willie Carter, Jr.
