Elizabeth ‘Sue’ Genieva LaBeau passed away on August 6, 2021 following a short illness. She was born July 25, 1929 in Hume Twp., Michigan to James Emmett and Geneva Irene Shine. She was the fourth of five children – Thomas M. Shine, Mary Ann Shine Ahearn, Joseph Shine and Bryan (Gloria) Shine all of whom preceded her in death. Sue was predeceased by her parents, three husbands – Charles ‘Chuck’ Marshall, Robert Urquhart, Thomas LaBeau and a step-son, Christopher is survived by two children – David (Debra) Urquhart and Debra Urquhart LaBeau, two step-children Thomas (Shaun) LaBeau and Denise (Dennis) LaBeau Dufek and has a special bond with her niece Marlene Carlson who lived with her as a youngster much of the time. Her grandchildren – Mary Catherine Urquhart, Elizabeth Urquhart, and Victoria Urquhart. Her step-grandchildren – Aaron LaBeau and Lauren LaBeau, Ashley Dufek Lyons, Andy Vella, Brent Vella and Casie Vella O’Cana.Surviving also are nieces Colleen Shine Stanowski, Katherine Shine, Joey Michelle Shine Gagnon, Kathleen Ahearn Barreda and Mary Elizabeth Ahearn Havens as well as nephews John Shine. Francis Joseph Ahearn and Brian grew up in Port Austin, Michigan area. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in Bad Axe, Michigan. Following graduation, she moved to the Detroit area where she worked as an office assistant and model for Stroh’s Brewing Co. After her second marriage she became a stay-at-home mother to her children, David and Debra. She remarried after her second husband’s passing and became step-mother to Thomas, Denise and Christopher LaBeau. She and her husband lived in Plymouth, Michigan and she worked for the Harris, Gunzel and Meyers Law Firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan as a paralegal until her retirement. She was a confident, vibrant woman who loved life and had a terrific sense of humor. She was very proud of her Irish Heritage. St. Patrick’s Day was a major holiday for her. She had many quips like “you’re not the boss of the applesauce” when someone tried to tell her what to do or “I’m making air pudding with wind sauce” when asked what’s for dinner just to name a few. Sue and Tom loved spending vacation time in Florida during the winter and moved there after retirement. They enjoyed cruises and trips to Europe, Ireland, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Alaska. Sue enjoyed golfing and in her younger years, horseback riding.
