A graduate of Modesto Junior College and the University of California, Berkeley, Elizabeth ( known in childhood as Betty May, and to many later as Betty), started her teaching career in Salinas, California.  She also taught at St. Joseph’s Grammar School in Alameda and later became head of the English department at Encinal High School in Alameda.

Betty  married her high school sweetheart in 1947,  they would have been married 64 years on June 22.
