Elizabeth “Betty” (Shea) Almeida of Danvers, passed away, surrounded by family, on July 21, 2016 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long illness. She was 78. Born in Milton, MA to the late Patrick and Mary Shea, Betty graduated from St. Columbkille High School in Brighton, MA in 1956. She married her beloved husband, the late Leo Almeida, in 1965. They settledin Danvers and quickly became immersed in the town as their family grew. While raising five children, Betty was active as a Camp Fire Girl leader, religious education instructor, class parent, and was elected to several terms as a Town Meeting Member for Precinct 2. Over these same years she earned an associate degree from North Shore Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern where she also completed graduate coursework in public administration. Employed at Danvers Town Hall for more than twenty years, she worked in the Town Clerk’s and Retirement offices and served as an AFSCME shop steward.
