Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Rose Cameron Gray, age 78, of Cameron, NC, quietly and peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at her residence.
She was born October 22, 1944, in Harnett County, North Carolina, the fourth child of the late Ruby and Abraham Cameron. Preceding her in death are her eldest brother, Abram Lemuel Cameron, her youngest brother, Kenneth Wayne Cameron, and her eldest sister, Frances Cameron.
Liz, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Johnsonville High School in 1962. Soon after graduating, she relocated to Newark, New Jersey, where she met and married her husband, Willie, of 58 years in 1964. She enjoyed a career in retail and banking until her retirement.
During her youth, Liz committed her life to Christ at Spout Springs Presbyterian Memorial Church. For many years, she was a member of True Victory Deliverance Tabernacle under the
leadership of Apostle Lonnie Sessoms, Jr. and Pastor Queen Sessoms. During her time there, she served in many capacities: Pastor’s Aide Committee, Nursing Department, President of the Missionary Department, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Warrior, and Intercessor. In November of 1988, Evangelist Elizabeth Gray was ordained as Pastor Elizabeth. The name of her church was Johnsonville City of Refuge. Pastor Gray separated from True Victory Deliverance Tabernacle and became an autonomous ministry for several years. After closing her church a few years ago, she chose to become a part of and to sit under the leadership of her brother, Charles E. Cameron, Sr., the Apostle and Bishop of Covenant Christian Church in Vass, North Carolina where she remained until her transition.
Liz became an accomplished “chef” under the tutelage of our Aunt Louise Ferguson and thoroughly enjoyed creating hearty meals for her three sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her coconut cake was absolutely divine and could not be duplicated by anyone.
She was passionate about traveling and being near the ocean. Her travels included trips to Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and many other places within the United States. She spent the last week of her life at the beach by the ocean enjoying the sounds of the waves rolling onto the shore.
Liz leaves to cherish her precious memories, husband, Willie Gray, Jr.; three sons, William “J.D.” Gray of Cameron, NC, Dell Lemuel Gray of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Cedric Antwon Gray of
Cameron, NC; nine grandchildren, Rafeal (Rachel), Julian (Danielle), Trevion, Cedric II, Anissa, Bryonna, Marcus, Malachi, Nehemiah; and six great-grandchildren, Xavier, Mason, Alivia, Alexandria, London, and Maverick. Also, cherishing lifetime memories are three brothers, Ronald Cameron (Wanda) of Vass, NC, Charles Cameron, Sr. (Charlene), and Lewis Cameron
(Linda) of Cameron, NC; four sisters, Shirley Robinson (Robert) of Plainfield, IL, Mary Scott, Brenda McLain, and Gail Mays all of Cameron, NC, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and
friends.
