Passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in Saginaw, MI after a fierce and lengthy battle with chronic lung disease. She was 62 years old and had remained faithful to her Lord through all of her physical struggles. Elizabeth Pena was born on September 16, 1955 in Bronx, New York City, New York to the late Gilberto Sr. and Mary (Ortiz) Pena. She graduated from Saginaw High School, and then furthered her education at the University at Central Florida where she received her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. Liz then returned to Saginaw and was a social worker for the Department of Human Services. While working Liz returned to Saginaw Valley State University and earned her Master’s Degree. Liz was passionate about the work that she did, and enjoyed serving all of those around her. She was a faithful member of Holy Mission Ministries, where she loved to worship her Lord and be very active within her church family. Liz loved to study the Bible and prayerfully kept all of her family in her prayers.
Liz loved to spend time with her family and extended family and will be deeply missed by her sons: Emilio (Mallorie) Llanas and their expected child in November, and Jose Santiago and his daughter, Isabella Berden; sisters and brother: Linda (Ben) Gonzales, Carmen (Nick) Zitko, Mary (Charles) Migliaccio, Margaret McGarrity, Alice (Leonardo) Pena Garcia and Gilbert Pena, Jr.
Liz’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Joseph Parambil from the Cleveland Clinic for all the comfort and care that he and his staff provided through her illness.
