Elizabeth Louise ‘Lit’ Patterson Lewis

Elizabeth Louise ‘Lit’ Patterson Lewis passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville, Florida. Lit was born on April 13, 1931 in Pell City, Alabama to Martin C. and Martha B. Patterson. On September 20, 1954, she married Dendy E. Lewis. Together, they traveled the country and the world while stationed at various U.S. Air Force bases during his military career. They moved to Shalimar in 1969.

Lit was Baptist by faith and was a “people person” who enjoyed meeting new friends and participating in numerous associations. She was a long-time active member of various Democratic Party organizations, including the Okaloosa County Democratic Executive Committee on which she served as Treasurer, the Democratic Women’s Club of Okaloosa County, in which she also served as Treasurer from 2004 – 2008 and the Hootnanny Democrats of Okaloosa County.

Lit was also a dedicated member of the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Auxiliary.

Lit was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Dendy E. Lewis (Major, Ret.); her parents, Martin C. and Martha B. Patterson, and her in-laws, Benjamin E. and Ruth D. Lewis. She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law, William “Bill” Purvis, Jr. and Frank A. Lewis.

Lit is survived by her daughters, Camelia “Cammie” L. Wingard (J. D., Jr.) of Crestview, Laura L. Johnson (David P., Sr.) of Mary Esther and Janet M. Lewis of Savannah, Georgia; her sister, Elsie P. Purvis of Pell City, Alabama; her grandchildren, David P. Johnson, Jr. (Amanda), Matthew K. Johnson (Jessica) and Jeremiah L. Johnson (fiancée, Kristen Phillips); great-grandchild, Andrew Martin Johnson; two special nieces, Melanie P. Sullivan (Robert) and Melissa P. McClain (J. C.); sisters-in-law, Ollie Pearl Olive (Harold) and Kathleen L. Thompson (Joe), along with numerous other nieces and nephews.
