Elizabeth M. “Betty” Piefer, 92, of Freeport, died unexpectedly, Sunday, March 16, 2008, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born Sunday, January 9, 1916 in Peoria she was the daughter of Jack and Ann (Amos) Morton. She married LeRoy Piefer December 12, 1936 in Freeport and he died May 12, 1969.
Betty worked at Micro Switch for 27 years retiring in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist and their Martha Circle. She also belonged to R.S.V.P. Betty’s father was a former Golf Pro for the Freeport Country. This was the beginning of her life long passion for golf. She won several golf tournaments in the early 1930’s and played the game until she was 80 years old.She was also an avid quilter.
Surviving are her sons, Royce (Janet) Piefer, Brian Piefer, and Dennis (Bonnie) Piefer all of Freeport, and Roger Piefer of Cedarville; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; one sister, Doreen Morton of Rockford; her brothers, Robert (Donna) Morton of Freeport, Douglas Morton of East Lansing, Michigan, and John (Joan) Morton of Rockford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 grandchildren.
