Elizabeth Steinbaugh, 89 years young passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson ’s disease. She was born in Jamestown, New York, one of four children of Percy and Mae Levina Barlow.
Elizabeth was raise in Erie, Pa. where she attended Villa Maria College graduating with a bachelor science degree in early education. She also received her master’s degree from the college of Fredonia, New York. Elizabeth taught school in Erie, Pa. until 1974 moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida where she taught in Brevard County schools until retiring in 1998, after retiring she made Viera, Fl. her home.
Elizabeth traveled extensively throughout Europe in the United States while on her summer vacations with friends and family.
She was a member of the Space Tracker Square Dance Club for over 30 years and also served as their secretary, a member of the Moose Club and Friends on the Go dinner group. Elizabeth was a red hat member for over 25 years as she established the chapter in the area and was a Duchess. She passed to her children her zest for life and her independent spirit.
Survivors are daughter Elizabeth Gatewood of Sharpsburg, Ga, grandson Michael Cody Gatewood of Sharpsburg, Ga. currently serving his country in the United States Navy. Daughter Candice Thompson of Highland Ranch, Colorado, grandson Jeffery Thompson and wife Lisa, granddaughters Jennifer Thompson and husband Andrew Nicole Thompson and husband Chris and several great grandchildren all in Colorado. Sister Carol Conner of Erie Pa. and Sister in Law Joanne Barlow of Harbor Creek, Pa. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Charles Garrick of Merritt Island, Fl, James Akins of Titusville, Fl. companion of 15 years, Sister Shirley Smith, California and Brother Harry Barlow of Harbor Creek, Pa.
