Elizabeth Carty Butler, 95, Grand Rapids, died September 15, 2005 at Porter Hills Retirement Village, Grand Rapids, Michigan after an extended illness.
She was born October 25, 1909 in Sullivan, Indiana. She graduated from Sullivan High School in Sullivan and Anthony Wayne Business Institute in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
In 1929, she met and married Harold L. Butler. They were married 56 years before his death in 1985. They lived most of their lives in Anderson.
She was a homemaker and attended Bethany Christian Church in Anderson. She had been involved in Girl Scouts of America in Anderson for over 20 years as a troop leader, on many committees, and on the local Anderson GS Board. She also enjoyed belonging to and participating in the Madison County Home Extension Services for many years.
She was an officer and member of the ”Happy Family Club.”
She is survived by her children, James R. Butler of Anderson and Shirley R. Butler Hans of Caledonia, Michigan; grandchildren, Danny Butler of Alexandria, Dick Sandi Butler and David Susan Butler of Pendleton, Becky Hollen fiance James Howard of Anderson, Linda McConnell of Traverse City, Michigan, Tim Hans of Rockford, Michigan and Terry Hans of Maui, Hawaii; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and nieces, Patsy John Taylor and Sue and Ron Martin of Arizona and Berniece McCammon of Sylvesta, Kentucky.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, Harry and Chloe Shipman Carty and a daughter-in-law, Esther Butler.
