Elizabeth (Betty) Geiger, 83, of Cocoa Beach, Florida died on May 13, 2019. She was born on December 19, 1935 in Manhattan NY and raised across the river in Hoboken N.J.

Betty graduated from Sacred Heart Academy High School in 1954 and went to work in New York City. She had a passion for acting and performed Off Broadway until she married her high school boyfriend, Bill, on December 1, 1956.  They have four children.  The young family lived in Orlando, where Mrs. Geiger was very active in the Marlando (Martin-Orlando) Women’s Club and Cooking Group and where they developed lifelong Orlando friends.  Much to the dismay of their Orlando friends, the family moved to Cocoa Beach in 1967 to join the space race.

Betty was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, a member of the C.B. Junior Women’s Club, a school volunteer and nurse’s aide.  In addition, she was a Paul Harris Distinguished member of Rotary and was on the Board of Directors for the Freedom 7 Senior Community Center.  After her children were raised, she became the first female in Brevard County to earn the Senior Residential Appraiser designation and she worked as an appraiser until she retired.

When the kids were growing up, Betty always made the house open to the neighborhood, which was often the center of activity with basketball, cheerleading and gymnastics, and she was always available to carpool to the countless practices, games, meets and tournaments her kids participated in through the years.

She enjoyed bowling with her close friends, Marion Abel and Nancy McCabe, and were joined by their husbands in attending countless sporting events for Cocoa Beach High School and dining out once a week for many decades.  She also spent many enjoyable hours, birthdays, vacations and day trips with her “adopted” sisters, Jeweldene Calvetto and Anne Schuiling.

Betty is preceded in death by parents, Helen and John McInerney, brothers, Robert and Michael McInerney and sister, Sister Joan Maureen.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, of 62 years; their four children-Bill, Clara Puleo (Rudy), Margaret Jennesse (Michael), and Bob; brother Bill; grandchildren-Cody and Lauren Geiger and Alexis Kimmel, Rudy and Vinny Puleo, Joseph and Michael Jennesse and Jakob Geiger; along with numerous extended family members.
