Elizabeth “Bette” Petanovitch, 87, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Creator on Saturday, January 4, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late John Petanovitch for 63 years. Born on June 9, 1926, the eldest daughter of the late Mildred and Patrick McCusker, she was raised in New Britain, and moved to Newington where she raised her family. She was known as Bette, Mom, Aunt and Nana and leaves an enormous hole in the hearts of many. A devoted mother, she worked hard in every situation, always accepting new challenges. She retired from Southern New England Telephone Company after many years of service. Her many talents were manifested in practical ways. A natural seamstress, she made all of the dresses in her oldest son’s wedding party, spent many years making beautiful wedding cakes, and pieced together numerous quilts. Bette’s biggest legacy was in her huge heart and the ability to make everyone feel welcome.
