Elizabeth Allen Wallace, 62
Brunswick, NY- Elizabeth Allen Wallace, 62,of West Road, Brunswick, died Friday, January 6, 2006, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
Betsy was born in Mexico City and grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Hughes) Allen and the late Henry E. Allen. In 1963 she married Richard P. Wallace, Esq. After graduating from Brown University they relocated to the Capital District.
Betsy started her career as an educator at The Albany Academy for Girls and continued a life of involvement in teaching and learning. She was a founder of the Children’s School at Emma Willard, a trustee of The Albany Academy for Girls, a teacher of writing, and an administrator at Russell Sage College.
A Master Gardener like her father, Betsy loved nothing more than nurturing living things and, as she put it, “getting dirt under her fingernails.” She cultivated the best in the world around her not only for her friends and family, but also for the community.
She was a board member of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood and gave her energy to many other educational and environmental causes. She will be remembered by those close to her as firm in her convictions and generous in her love.
Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include her children: Scott of New York City, Lee and her partner Dianna of Minneapolis, MN, and Stephen, his wife Meredith and their sons Andrew, Brooks, and Tucker of Bedford, NY.
