Elizabeth “Liz” Bates, 48 passed away Friday afternoon at her residence.
She was born in Queens, N.Y. the daughter of Lorraine (Kelly) Conroy, who survives, and the late Edward Conroy. Mrs. Bates was a 1976 graduate of Suffern High School, N.Y. She married Mick Bates on October 27, 1979, at West Point, N.Y. She moved to Upland in 2004 from Hamilton, Virginia. She enjoyed homemaking and gardening as well as breeding and raising Labrador Retrievers. She was active in the Taylor Women’s Bible Study and the Adult Bible Fellowship at Hanfield United Methodist Church, where she attended.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 28 years, Mick; two sons, Joshua (Erica) Bates, Ashburn, VA, Jason Bates, Ft. Benning, GA; a daughter, Jenni Bates, Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, John Conroy, New York, Keith (Rose) Conroy, New York, Tim Conroy, New Jersey; and a sister, Barbara (Bill) Giarratana.
