Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Chaney, 84, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2021 after a long illness. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mom, Grammy, great Grammy, and friend.
Libby grew up in the piney woods of East Texas. She learned the value of hard work at an early age, but she also acquired the gift of finding joy in the simple things. She had abundant memories of a childhood filled with laughter and adventure with her two sisters and many cousins.
Libby attended Atlanta High School and was the Valedictorian of her 1954 graduating class. She later graduated from legal secretary school in Shreveport. While working in Shreveport, Libby met the love of her life, Fred Chaney. They were married for 65 years.
Libby raised her children in Waco and worked for two of Waco’s top law firms. She was an avid reader, accomplished cook, and the most wonderful pie baker. She loved playing games with friends, attending estate sales, and completing crossword puzzles. A gifted wordsmith, Libby was a flawless grammarian, but she generally wasn’t obnoxious about it. She enjoyed summer vacations in the mountains of Southwest Colorado, and later, after retirement, frequent trips to Montana and Oregon to visit family. Among her favorite hobbies was line dancing with the senior group in Waco until dementia took its toll. She was a member of Brookview Church of Christ.
Elizabeth loved her family more than anything, especially when her three grandchildren and later three great-grandchildren were born. We will all miss her devoted love, quick wit, tender heart, and infectious laugh.
Survivors include her husband Fred Chaney of Waco, son Terry (Katrina) Chaney of Helena, MT, son Scott (Gabriela) Chaney of Spring, TX, and sister Sue Crow of Blanchard, LA; Grandchildren: Devin (Erin) Chaney, Derik (Kaytlon) Chaney and Sabrina Chaney; Great Grandchildren: Wyatt, Beckett, and Nora. Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Chess and Reba Greene, and her sister, Faye Milam.
