Mr. Bailey who died January 28, 2015 at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation in Madison, Alabama was born on July 20, 1925 in Courtland, AL to the late Frank and Elsie Bailey. At a young age, Elijah accepted the Lord as his personal savior.  He attended various churches in North Alabama, and was a faithful member of Holy Temple of God in Christ in Decatur, AL until his health failed.

He was a farmer in Lawrence County, and worked at Chemstrand, Norton Company, Decatur Community Action and various odd jobs throughout surrounding areas.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a love for music and two songs that he will always be remembered by are “Lord Won’t You Stop by Here” and “I Don’t Know Why”.

Elijah Bailey Sr. was preceded in death by 12 siblings: Curtis, Frank, George, James, Jeremiah, Roosevelt, Walter, Willie, Edward, Elsie and Lucille.

Elijah leaves to cherish his memory: six children, Elijah (Linda) Bailey Jr. of Harvest, AL, Roseanna  Bailey, James, Rosetta all of Brooklyn, NY, Jeremiah Bailey of Decatur and Gloria Freeman; sister-in-law, Grace Hampton of Chicago, IL, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A special friend Frances Thomas.
