Elias H. “Ed” Beeghly, 89, of Farmington, widower of Ella Joyce Beeghly, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Ingraham Manor.

He was born on March 19, 1920 in Greenwich, son of the late Wood and Viola (Gass) Beeghly.  Ed had been a resident of Farmington for over fifty years.  He joined the National Guard in 1938.  Upon America’s entry into WW II, he transferred to the U.S. Army.  After graduating from Officer Candidate School and receiving a commission as a 2nd lieutenant, he served as a combat engineer in the Aleutian Campaign on the island of Attu.  After the war, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserve for many years, retiring as a Major.  He graduated from Trinity College in 1949.  He was employed as an engineer at Pratt and Whitney for many years until his retirement.  He was a member of the VFW Post 10361 in Farmington and also the Union Lodge #5 in Stamford.

He is survived by his children, Susan Beeghly of West Hartford, Douglas Beeghly and his wife, Louise of Glastonbury, and Bruce Beeghly of Bristol; his sisters and brother, Phyllis Kopec of Norwalk, Wood Beeghly of West Chester, PA, Viola Wright and her husband, Russell of Norwalk, Blanche Berry and her husband, Bob of Shelton, and Sylvia Stunkel and her husband, Fred of Stamford; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jensen.  Ed’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Ingraham Manor for their loving and compassionate care.
