Leominster – Elfriede M. (Goetz) Cavanagh, 78, of Leominster, died July 3, 2014, in UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, after an illness. She was born May 21, 1936, in Webster, MA daughter of the late Joseph E. and Elfriede M. (Vollmar) Goetz. Mrs. Cavanagh graduated from Leominster High School, Class of 1954. She received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from Fitchburg State College. She taught in Westminster Public Schools, went to Germany for one year to teach as a civilian for the Military, and then taught at Leominster High School from 1964 – 1998.
Mrs. Cavanagh actively assisted her husband in the Leominster Lions Club activities, volunteered and coordinated the Leominster High School Driver Education program with her husband from 1993 until the present time.
Mrs. Cavanagh is survived by her husband Michael J. Cavanagh and they were married for 46 years. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret Goetz and her daughter, Rebecca Skolnick, of California, a sister-in-law Jean Goetz of Michigan and her sons, Robert Goetz of Tennessee, and Brian Goetz of Michigan, a cousin, Marianne Celona of California, and her children, Mary Lou Celona and Frank Celona of California, along with numerous relatives in Germany. Among her survivors are a sister-in-law, Mary Stanton of Leominster, and her children Julia Gionet of Fitchburg, and Daniel Cavanagh of Leominster; Ellen Aubuchon and her husband Ernest of Lunenburg, their children; Elizabeth Souza of Leominster, Mary Healy of Lancaster; Clare Breen and her husband Jeremiah of Fitchburg, their children Sean Breen of Germany and Patrick Breen of Leominster, along with 10 great grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Rudi Goetz, who died in 1994.
