Elfacine D. “Tommie” Hoon age 92 of Midland died at her residence on Friday May 8, 2015.
The daughter of the late Theodore and Delia (Chartrand) Emery was born on May 22, 1922 in Merrill, Michigan. On June 22, 1940 she married Lloyd Hoon in St. Elmo, MI and he predeceased her on June 26, 1997. Tommie drove school bus in her early years and was a long time housekeeper for several area families. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and loved raising chickens and was a collector of chicken artifacts.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and enjoyed fishing. Tommie will always be remembered for her pride in taking care of her family and helping neighbors and friends. Tommie was a long time member and faithful worker at the Midland Missionary Church.
Tommie is survived by her son Vernon L. (Theresa) Hoon of Sanford and her daughters Lois (Terry) Horden of Midland and Margaret E. Hoon of Midland. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Laura (Dale) Shedden, Alex (Rebecca) Horden, Kalynn (Harry) Myers, Michael (Becki) Hoon, Kelly (Darren) Haut, Helen (Ed) Danowski, Sue Ane (Corey) Maltby, Rick Shankel, David Shankel, Peggy Shankel, Kirk Shankel, and Dixie (Eddie) Rodriguez. Tommie will also be missed by twenty six great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Tommie’s brother-in-law Earl (Alma) Hoon and sister-in-law Norma (Ray) Stevens also survive. In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by her daughter Evelyn J. Shankel, five brothers and four sisters.
