Elex Elliott Jr. was born May 1, 1934 in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late Elex Elliott Sr. and Lucille Clay Elliott. He transitioned this life peacefully surrounded by his family on February 19, 2016. Elex accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Baptist Church. He was employed for 25 plus years at Fruehauf Corporation until becoming medically disabled.

He loved to fish, hunt and play bingo. Although he struggled with complications from several strokes, his faith never wavered. He always was positive and never complained. He loved his family and friends and his infectious smile would light up the room. He had a memory that was phenomenal and would always let you know how he felt about something.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Elex Elliott Sr. and Lucille Clay Elliott Jones; two children, Ellarene Smith and Alex Mosley; siblings, Louise Elliott, Bernice Swopes, Lethan Ann Hayes, Robert “John” Elliott, Earnest Stevenson and Ruby Broughm; father and mother in-law, Ernest and Cora Lee Horton Bell; brothers-in-law, Fred Bell, Willie Boykin and Woodrow Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 52 years, Ernestine Bell Elliott of Decatur; children, Leon(Georgia ) Jones of Madison, Elex Tyrone (Nicole)Elliott, Beatrice “BB” Moody and Dexter (Daphne) Elliott all of Decatur; three brothers, Albert (Jean) Elliott Sr., Jimmy (Carolyn) Elliott and Harold (Irene) Elliott all of Decatur; three sisters, Sara Boykin, Elizabeth (William) Swopes and Linda (Andrew) Watkins all of Decatur; three sisters-in-law, Rebell Elliott of Trinity, AL,  Elizabeth Johnson and Catherine (Robert) Henry both of Decatur; God-children, Viola “Candy” Abernathy, Cary W. (Debbra) Orr, George Marcus (Dianne) Jones and Lee McGuire and Sidney Abernathy; 13 grandchildren, Corey, Vera, Margaret,  Kim, Jeremy, Ashley, Christopher, MarQuez, Leon II, Monica, Christan, Jada and Terrance;12 great-grandchildren; Alicia, Makiya, Dominique, Dedrick, Desnity, Ella, Kylen, Alex, Zariah, Stanley, Jayda Rose and Aysa; a devoted nephew that was a caregiver, Darrius “Stephon” Bell; special friends,Willodean Nash, Bertha Moore, Vivian Horton, Linda Raybon, Harry Smith and Willie Bouldin and a plethora of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special thank you to HGA Homecare, of Decatur, Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Hiteshris S.Bhavsar for the excellent and compassionate care given to our loved one and Wheeler Chapel Church for their faithfulness and love. We will forever be grateful to all the friends who stayed and cared for Elex and those who showed so many act of kindness during this difficult time.
