Eleanor Ruth Huffman passed away on November 14, 2018 at Denver Hospice Center near her family home. She lived a long life surrounded by her friends and family, who will miss her dearly.

Elly was born in Fort Collins, Colorado in October 1933 to her parents Clare and Edna. She grew up in Greeley, CO with her siblings; Neil, Lloyd, Roy and Dotty. Her favorite thing to do as a girl was to roller-skate around the UNC campus. She moved to Denver as a teenager and attended East High School. Elly and Dotty were two peas in a pod with the same quick wit and occasionally stubborn mentality and she greatly admired her three older brothers. Hopefully her siblings were there to greet her on the other side.

Elly is survived by her husband, Bob Huffman and their four children; Timothy (Dawn), Michael (Pippi), Sherri (Rob), and Steven (Rae Ann), and her four grandchildren; Tegan, Caitlin, Haley, and Guy. Elly was a dedicated mother and wife and she cared for four rambunctious and occasionally mischievous children while her husband served in the Vietnam War. Keeping up with those four was her greatest challenge but she did it with dignity and grace. Elly encouraged all of her children to explore music, art, science or anything that interested them. She and her son Tim shared a love for art. She enjoyed long conversations across the dining room table with daughter Sherri, munching on Pinwheel cookies and sipping coffee. She inspired Michael’s interest in primates by reading him Curious George bedtime stories and encouraged him to follow his dream and study primates in Japan. Elly made sure all of her children were dedicated Broncos fans, and that really suited Steve, who loved to attend home games with his mother.

Elly also loved to host family cookouts and Tegan loved to spend time on the back patio eating taco salad. Tegan and Caitlin loved to pick and eat the strawberries Bob and Elly grew in the garden before they were ripe. Many mornings Elly loved to watch Bill Nye the Science Guy with Haley, and bake orange rolls for Bob and Guy. In case you haven’t noticed, Elly had a bit of a sweet tooth that occasionally got her into trouble. You could always count on Elly to sneak you a piece of chocolate. She was the most loving matriarch and she will forever be adored by her children and grandchildren. Love you more than you know, Elly.
