Ellie moved to New York City in the post war years, married, studied opera and appeared professionally throughout the Northeast, both as a solo artist and with her husband. Following a divorce Ellie and her daughter returned to Syracuse where she continued music as a part-time profession, singing in Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Reform Jewish venues, as well as opera and Musical Theater.
Ellie retired from State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry after 22 years of service in continuing education. She served 18 years as a choir director in four Syracuse churches until moving to Flagstaff in 1993. She became a member of the First Congregational Church.
Ellie sang in the Choir and served on several committees in the Church and worked with the Flagstaff Light Opera Company as a vocal and diction coach. Ellie was also a 16-year breast cancer survivor.
Ellie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Longo, Tucson, two grandchildren and a host of friends all over the country. Ellie’s love of life was an inspiration to everyone she ever met.
