Eleanor Marie Herink, 84 of Westminster, died October 18, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born December 30, 1928 in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of Elizabeth Wicker Conniff and Thomas Conniff. She was the wife of LaVerne Dale Herink, whom she married December 29, 1958.
Her father was a master mechanic on the Lackawana railroad in Scranton, PA. Her mother worked at a grocery store and was a devoted mother to Eleanor and brother Willliam.
Before retiring, she worked in Clinical Nursing Oncology and Nursing Education at the Veterans Administration and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC responsible for dedicated care of cancer patients.
She was an active member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster.
We are grateful recipients of her boundless love of family, relatives, friends, strangers, and nursing. She took every opportunity to assist and counsel. Throughout their 55 years of marriage, it was a happy occasion for her husband LaVerne to join her at the end of each day, with her cheerful greeting and a “How was your day?”
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughter and son in law, Anne Oudemans and husband Robert (McLean, VA), sons and daughters-in-law Paul Herink and wife Anita (Potomac Falls, VA), Mark Herink and wife Samantha (York, PA) , son Thomas Herink (Gainesville, FL) , brothers William Conniff and wife Geraldine (Scranton, PA) and Sister-in Law Phyllis Magnussen (Traer, Iowa). Also surviving are grandchildren Robert Oudemans Jr. (McLean, VA), Zachary (Potomac Falls, VA), Garrett, Tyler, and Gina Herink (York, PA).
