Eleanor Lee Etta Lewis Gibson, age 86, passed away at home with family on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Eleanor was born in Pisgah, WV on February 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Jacob Howard Lewis and Ada Furl (Bolinger) Lewis Marrie. Eleanor was married for 71 years to her late husband, Elmer Virgil Gibson who passed away November 1, 2013. They had resided together in Kanes Creek (Reedsville) since 1952, in Herring from 1943 to 1952. Eleanor had worked outside the home for many years on various jobs, including the airplane factory in Arthurdale, WV while Virgil was overseas during World War II, spent 1964 through 1972 working as a billing clerk at Penmarva Grocers’ Association in Kingwood, WV then in May 1972 began traveling with her husband as he built coal plants and power plants in West Virginia, Virginia, Montana, and Missouri before returning home in 1977. She was best known as the owner of Eleanor’s Quilts and Fabrics from 1982 through 2011 when it was purchased by family. Eleanor’s quilts and home decor items were well known across the country and she worked diligently to handcraft each beautiful item she made. When not quilting or working in her store located by the house, she taught classes at Mon County Vo-Tech and also at the Marion County Vo-Tech. She leaves 4 daughters, Marlyn Stepp, Bonita K. Martin, , Gladine F. Hawley, and Sandra L. Slemboski and husband Ron (Slem) all of Reedsville, 3 brothers in law, Delmer Gibson and wife Bernice of Masontown, WV, Robert Gibson Sr. and wife Ruth of Morgantown, WV, George Gibson and wife Mary of Windham, OH, 2 sisters in law, Connie Marlene Jenkins and husband Joe of Pentress, WV, Bonnie Jean Gibson of North Ridgeville, OH, 12 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one nephew, Fred McManus of Leander, TX many wonderful nieces and nephews of the Gibson family and many wonderful cousins of the Lewis and Bolinger families. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Leota McManus, her nephew Dennis McManus, her niece Lois J. Massie, one grandson, Percy Martin, several brothers and sisters in law of the Gibson family and numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Lewis and Bolinger families.
