Eleanor J. Miller

Preston – Eleanor J. Miller, 91, of Miller Road passed away Tuesday March 27, 2018 at the Orchard Grove Specialty Care Center.

She was born July 1, 1926 in Windham, CT, the daughter of John Griffin and Louise (Kucharski) Griffin. She is survived by her son William J. Miller and his wife Susan Klein of Asheville, NC, two daughters Dorothy E. Miller of Preston, Eleanor L. Miller of Preston and granddaughter Katie Miller also of Asheville, NC.  Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Walter Miller, her parents and two brothers John Griffin and Carl Griffin.

Eleanor was born in Windham, CT graduating from Windham High in 1943. She was a resident of Preston since 1962, communicant and member of the Ladies Guild of St. Catherine of Sienna.  She was a member of the Preston Community Chorus for many years and also sang with the Golden Nuggets of the Rose City Senior Center.  She volunteered for the Cancer Society giving rides to people needing to get to their appointments. She also volunteered her time as writer for the Preston Pipeline, interviewing residents with a story of interest. She loved doing this as she enjoyed writing, talking with and meeting new people.

She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the State of Connecticut, first for Thames Valley Technical Institute in Norwich, Niantic Correctional Institute, and retired from Eastern State Community College in Willimantic.

Eleanor was exceedingly proud of her three children, supporting and applauding their every accomplishment. She was a wonderful mother and taught values of high standards. She was not just a mother but a friend and was always there to help when needed. She will be missed beyond words.

The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Grove for the attentive care given to our mom. We would especially like to thank Annie her aide and Sandee her roommate, who were both especially kind and caring.
