On May 10, 1926, Eleanor was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert and Dorothy Dawson. She was the second of eleven children. Eleanor was raised in a loving family where she enjoyed participating in athletics, playing with her siblings and learning to make the best of her life. She was a devoted caregiver to her younger siblings and grew to have a life-long passion for children.
Eleanor met her first husband, Herbert Hutchinson, at a skating rink. She was drawn to his good looks and warm personality. They were married in 1947 and to this union, Herbert Jr., Victor, and Norma were born.
Later, Eleanor was persuaded to relocate to Denver, Colorado after her sister DeVera, a determined matchmaker, introduced Isaac Greer to her. Shortly after, the two married and created a loving, blended family. Rita, Kim, Rod, and Gary were raised as her own. She ensured her children knew the Lord and were baptized.
