Eleanor Esther Hatfield, age 100, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away August 11, 2022 at Bryan West in Lincoln.

Eleanor was born March 25, 1922 on a farm west of Henderson to Henry B. Buller and Anna M. (Friesen) Buller. The doctor came to the farm in a horse and buggy to deliver her. She grew up near Henderson, attending a one room country school and graduating from Henderson High School in 1939.

On July 4, 1947 she was united in marriage to James E. Hatfield at the United Brethren Church in York. To this union two sons were born.

Eleanor has been involved with many civic events, those being on the library board for 25 years, Woman’s Club, Legion Auxiliary, Rainbow Rebecca Lodge of Polk, serving as Noble Grand, Lions Club and sang with the group “Vintage Voices.” She was also co-author of the book for the 100th History of the United Methodist Church. She was named Swedish Festival Queen in 1988.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg where she served as church treasurer for 8 years, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir. She became very interested in family genealogy and made a book of family history of the “Jose” family, her husband’s maternal family. She also did genealogy research for inquiries sent to the library for Polk County. For 11 years she worked with food prep for the Midwest Covenant Home and was very active in the Stromsburg Senior Center. She joined the aerobics group and after 25 years was still active. She was known as the tree lady at the senior center for decorating their Christmas tree each month in the current theme of the season. She also volunteered in the Res-Q-Shoppe.

She had an unfailing love of family.

Survivors include her sons Russell Hatfield of Omaha, Noel (Judy) Hatfield of Winterset, IA; granddaughters Jamie (Brad) Lundgren of Winterset, IA, Jennifer (John) Eaton of Winterset, IA; great grandchildren Isabell, Noelle and Gwendolyn Lundgren, Callie and Charles Eaton; step-daughter Sheila Barnett and her sons Tyler, Jack, Matt and Heather; brothers Louie (Evelyn) Buller of Lincoln, Dean Buller of Cozad and Jim (Betty) Buller of Omaha; sister-in-law Margaret Wilke; brother-n-law Robert Hatfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim who passed away June 23, 2008; brothers Howard (Elma) Buller; sister-in-law Harriet Buller; nephew Dyke Buller and grandson Shawn Henderson.
