Eldora Davis Crews was born March 17, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a surviving twin and the second youngest of 13 children born to Oscar Davis and Claudia Mae Reynolds Davis. She grew up in the Greenfield section of the City of Pittsburgh, graduating from Greenfield Elementary School and Taylor Allderdice High School.
After graduating high school in the late 1950s, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she joined the Isle of Patmos Baptist Church and began an illustrious career with the federal government including administrative positions at the Department of the Army and executive positions at the Small Business Administration. Later, she joined the Corinthian Baptist Church where she sang in the Young Adult Choir, as well as First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
Eldora served the Lord with gladness and was a blessing to many. She often leaned on the Holy Spirit for guidance and support and talked about how God was sending her on her next assignment to go help or care for someone who needed it. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 24:1. “The earth is the LORD’s and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” One of her favorite songs was, “Yes Lord, Yes!” In fact it was this song that carried her when she decided to go back home to take care of her aging mother.
She will be fondly remembered for her history of kind acts and gracious giving.
Preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Claudia Davis, her husband, Lyle Crews, her brothers Horace, Tommy Lee, Donald, Edward, Morris, Oscar Jr., Otis, her sisters Corrine, Helen, Geraldine. She is survived by her brother Lawrence, her sister Rachel, and more than a hundred beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
