He was born to Melvin Lee Kay and Janie Louise (Daniel) Kay on August 9, 1948 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on May 5, 2012, at his Ardmore residence.
Eldon grew up in Wynnewood, Oklahoma and graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1966, and went into the Army when he was drafted in April of 1968. He served as a medic in the 82nd Airborne until he was honorably discharged in 1970. Eldon went to Eastern Oklahoma State University and graduated with his associate’s degree in Industrial Arts. He moved to Ardmore in 1972 where he worked for Uniroyal until his retirement in 2005. He and his former wife, Beverly Kay, were the parents of three daughters that he loved dearly.
In his free time, he was known as ‘Weldin’ Eldon’ and could make anything from basketball goals to fences. Eldon was involved with Plainview football from 1980 until he received his cancer diagnosis in 2007. He ran the chains on the sidelines and did not miss a single home football game in 26 years. He was an active member of the Ardmore Elks Lodge for 31 years. He loved to play golf, especially with his friend Twila. After retirement, he put many miles on his Harley with his friends, and was a member of the Patriot Guard.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny Kay.
He is survived by his daughters, Terri Storts and her husband Brad, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Laura Kay of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Sarah Kay, of the home; a granddaughter Brooklyn Storts and grandson Blake Storts, who meant the world to him and he told them often they were the best medicine he could ever receive; two sisters, Reba Stephens and husband Tom of Altus, Oklahoma, Vicky Thomas and husband David of Beaumont, Texas; a sister in law, Debbie Kay of Ada, Oklahoma; nephews, Shannon and Brad Stephens, Josh Kay, Brandon and Tyler Thomas.
Casket bearers will be Shannon Stephens, Josh Kay, Tyler Thomas, David Thomas, Dan Tuley and Richard Chadwick.
Honorary casket bearers will be members of the B.P.O.E. #1906, and fellow coworkers from Uniroyal.
