Reflections

Elder Cora Lee McIver, daughter of the late Robert and Emma Ward Marsh, was born December 7, 1925 and departed this earthly world at home to enter her eternal home on November 5, 2018. She was married to the late Philmore McIver and to this union two children were born.

Elder McIver completed high school and graduated from Bethel Institute in Sanford, NC. She was formerly employed by Chatham County Council on Aging as a nurse’s aide until her retirement in April 23, 1999. She was a member and served as assistant secretary of the Chatham County Ministerial Alliance for many years.

Pastor McIver was a former member of Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church and Mt. Olive Holy Church in Bear Creek before joining Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Ramseur, NC where she served as assistant pastor for many years under the leadership of the late Elder Annie Woodle and later was appointed pastor of the church in 1979.

Elder McIver worked faithfully, never looking back during her ministry. It was her desire to continue to do His will and preach the gospel to her flock and all mankind so that one day lost souls will surrender unto Him.

She was a saved, faithful, humble and dedicated woman of God. The epitome of a virtuous woman who was determined to make Heaven her home. Being a warrior for Christ, praise was a powerful tool for her which included making a joyful noise by beating the cymbals and stomping her feet, giving all she had to promote the service of God.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking for them everyday and helping them get their homework out. Tuesday was always a special meal day.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a host of brothers and sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Glenn Douglas McIver (Annie Jean) and daughter, Philmer Jean Brooks(James Brooks, deceased) of Bear Creek, NC; one sister, Hazel Marsh of Siler City, NC; a sister-in-law, Hattie Marsh of Bear Creek, NC; one brother-in-law, James McIver (Ernestine) of Sanford, NC; six grandchildren, Tracy Burnett (Tracy Lynn) of Graham, NC, Melanie McIver, Sanford, NC, Tera Brooks of High Point, NC, Tiffany Brooks, Whitsett, NC, Allison McIver and Travis Brooks, Bear Creek, NC; ten great-grandchildren, Calen, Shaylen, Jalen Burnett, Makaylah, Inysia, Mariah, Anyiah, Josiah McIver, Ilana Brooks and Samiyah Gantt; two goddaughters, Jessica Tinnin and Kay Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God saw her getting tired and the cure was not to be

So He put His arms around her and whispered, “Come with me.”

A golden heart stopped beating; hard working hands laid at rest,

God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

It broke our hearts to lose her, but she didn’t go alone,

For part of us went with her, the day God took her home.
