BRIGHAM CITY – Elaine Marie Horton Ohman passed on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at her home, with family by her side. Marie was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 12, 1937 the first child of Sarah Elaine Allen and Howard Bennett Horton.
Marie lived in many locations in her youth, predominantly in Utah County, where she graduated from Payson High then traveled to the Los Angeles area to accept employment as a “Nanny” prior to working in a celebrity toy shop and attending Los Angeles City College. She met Jerald Earland Ohman at an LDS young adult activity in San Diego, CA. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple.
A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Marie held numerous positions including Primary Pres, Young Women’s Pres and Relief Society Pres in four Wards. She served nine years in the Los Angeles Temple and three Missions with her husband. Known for her kindness, Marie distributed thousands of “boxes of love” made by her own hand. In her ‘everyday’ life, she was Pres of Craft Cottage, Inc., a significant retail craft business, was director of numerous Red Cross Health Fairs and served as Board Chair of the Claremont, CA chapter of the American Red Cross, also serving as Disaster Coordinator setting up and administering shelter operations for earthquake and fire victims in California.
