Elaine Kay Hammer went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday evening, May 20, 2021. She had been courageously battling cancer for the past two years.

Elaine was born in Pitcher, Oklahoma, on August 4, 1942, to Claude and Marvel Sappington. After moving several times during her childhood, she graduated from Kellogg High School in Kellogg, Idaho. While attending North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, she met Dennis D. Hammer of Spokane, Washington (who proceeded her in death). The two were married and had four children together: Dennis W., Donald, Kristy, and Dana. She was blessed with three daughters-in-law: Bobbie, Sherree, and Darleen. Elaine has eight grandchildren: Dennis Benjamin (wife, Angie), Anthony, Nathaniel (who also proceeded her in death), Jonathan, Bradley (wife, Lexi), Joshua, Donald Jacob, and Amber. She is also blessed with two great grandchildren: Elijah and Jazmine. Elaine has three brothers, Claude (wife, Linda) Sappington (both proceeded her in death), Larry (wife, Jeannie) Sappington and Donald Sappington.

Elaine was a lifelong learner who attended North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, after high school. To re-certify as a teacher and return to the classroom, Elaine attended Boise State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in Education in 1985.

Elaine impacted many people throughout her life.  Her passion was teaching, which she devoted herself to for many years. She touched the lives of children in the Kellogg, Mountain Home, and Parma, Idaho School Districts, as well as the Winnemucca, Nevada School District, where she taught as well.

She will be missed by those who have loved and appreciated her.  All who know and love Elaine realize that while this moment is bitter-sweet, because we are temporarily separated from our mother and friend. But we have hope as we will someday be reunited with her. She is free from her mortal shell, pain and disease. She is healthy and whole in the presence of her Savior Jesus. We who have excepted the free gift of Jesus Christ, will see Elaine again soon.
