Elaine H. (Gonet) Ploch, 97, of Granville, passed away Friday, June 05, 2015, at Manor Court in Peru. Mrs. Ploch was born on Good Friday, March 29, 1918, in Cherry to Henry and Fernandi (Leynaud) Gonet and was a “coal miner’s daughter”.

She was of French descent and learned to speak French and English at a young age. She lived in Seatonville until age four. The family then moved to Jeiseyville where she attended grade school. They later moved to Standard and she graduated from Hopkins High School in Granville. She loved singing and acting in school plays and loved music. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in LaSalle. She married George C. Ploch on February 14, 1947, in the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church rectory in Cedar Point. Mrs. Ploch served the people of the Illinois Valley for 44 years, working as a registered nurse, performing private duty in people’s homes, and serving at St. Mary’s Hospital in LaSalle, Peoples Hospital in Peru, St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley, Dr. Gallagher’s office in Granville and later at Heritage Manor of Peru. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Cedar Point and later, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granville. She was a member of the Cedar Point Mother’s Club and the American Nurses Association. She was a long-time volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Shriners. Survivors include two children, Douglas D. (Fe) Ploch of Utica and Jeanine M. (Terry) Ghighi of Seattle, WA; her daughter-in-law, Marijeane Ploch of Oglesby; her granddaughter, Lisa (Dan) Swope of O’Fallon, MO and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George on February 10, 1995; one son, George V. Ploch; her grandson, Zachary Ploch; her sister, Yvonne Dippel and two brothers, Adrien and Vernon Gonet. Pallbearers will be Mike and David Gonet, Eric Dippel, Andrew Gehm, Dan Swope, and Terry Ghighi.
