Elaine H. McMindes, 79, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021, at Franciscan Health East. She was born September 2, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, IL, to the late Norman and Eleanora (Leistner) Garbers.
Elaine graduated as Valedictorian from Mt. Vernon Township High School in Mt. Vernon, IL and on January 13, 1968, she married Kenley P. McMindes in Mt. Vernon and he survives.
Elaine worked in International Programs Administration at Purdue University from 1980 until her retirement in 2002. She had previously worked for Prudential Life Insurance Company.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active with the Ladies of Grace and Lutheran Womens Missionary League. Elaine was also active with the Bach Chorale Singers and enjoyed traveling, music and reading.
Surviving along with her husband are her children Coleen K. (Kevin) King of Lafayette, Kevin P. McMindes of West Lafayette and grandchildren Aaron and Sydney King. Also surviving is her brother Roger (Jackie) Garbers of Mt. Vernon, IL. Elaine was preceded in death by her brother Ronald Garbers.
