Gladys “Elaine” Chenault was born in Kansas City, Missouri to John Fredin and Amber Crockett.

Elaine lived in Las Vegas, NV for many years where she worked as an administrative assistant for the Clark County Police Department. Her work provided many amusing anecdotes which she shared with friends, family. and even strangers. She truly enjoyed being around people – talking and sharing stories were favorite pastimes. She would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.

Elaine also loved animals of all kinds and had many feline and canine companions over the years. The antics of her cats and dogs provided many hours of enjoyment and highlighted her conversation.

Shortly after her retirement Elaine moved to Flagstaff to be with her son Sam. She possessed a bright, inquisitive spirit and relished the many colorful sights and sounds of her new community, especially the four seasons that her previous homes had lacked. She loved seeing the flowering trees of spring, the lush greenery of summer, the bright colors of autumn and the snow on anything – but especially The Peaks – in winter.

Elaine just loved life. Parties with friends – and food! Barbeques, holiday dinners, the wide variety of local restaurants – she was eager to go and would fill the room with her laughter and blunt assessment of the cuisine. She often brought her yarn bag with her to knit and crochet while she talked. Many people were blessed with her handmade creations during her life.

Elaine will be truly missed by those who knew her best. She is survived by her beloved children Steve Jones, Elizabeth Buck and Samuel Mayer: precious grandchildren Jarryd Buck and Colette Buck; two dear nieces Dominique Valletti and Erica Valletti.
