Mr. Edwin Suib, 88, of Southbury died Tuesday May 15, 2012 at home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myra (Jacowitz) Suib, daughter Margaret K. Suib of Norwalk, son Daniel M. Suib of Brookfield, grandchildren Justin A. Suib of Norwalk, Nicole and Billy Suib of Brookfield, and Dan’s Fiancé© Maxine Pomerenke and her son, Jared. His brother, Gerald Suib predeceased him in 2011.
Born March 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Phillip Suib and Celia Henzeloff Karp. Ed Suib graduated from Tilden High School and attended Brooklyn College for one year. With the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the US Navy, was attached to the Marine Corps and saw much combat in the South Pacific, including the invasion of Iwo Jima. He also served in Hawaii and on Corregidor. After his discharge, he attended Princeton University on the GI bill. He was a member of the Court Club, earning a BA in Psychology and graduating with the class of 1948.
Ed was a manufacturer of men’s clothing. He was president of Menswear International, an importer of men’s clothing; director of Hong Kong Trading Company, Envoy Pacific, Ltd. He served on an advisory committee for the US Department of Commerce. He traveled extensively in the Far East and was one of the first Americans to do business in China in the early 1970s. He retired at age 57.
