Lakeland – Edwin Jacob “E.J.” Daughtry, 91, went home to be with the Lord on the 73rd anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Maye, Wednesday, March 12, 2014, as a result of complications of a massive stroke.

Mr. Daughtry was born February 26, 1923 in Climax, GA. He and his family moved to Polk County in 1930. Mr. Daughtry was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army where he served in the European Theater during World War II. He was employed as a truck driver with Ryder Truck Lines until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Daughtry was a very active man to the very end, and he loved to fish, garden, work with cows, and camp. Even at 91, he had a camping trip planned with Mrs. Daughtry for this April.

Mr. Daughtry is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Maye Daughtry; daughter, Sharran Jones and her husband, Bobby; grandsons, Brett Jones and his wife, Kelli, Mark Jones and his wife, DeAnn and Todd Jones and his wife, Amy; great grandsons, Trent, Austin, Dakota, Dalton and Chase; great granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Aleia and Madison; 4 nephews; and many close and devoted friends.
