Edwin Isaac Root, age 97 of Milford, CT, beloved husband of Dorothy Viola Root, passed away peacefully on Monday March 2, 2015.
Born on November 11, 1917 in Milford, he was the son of the late Edwin Root and Irene Bishop Root. Ed was a member of Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 until 1937.
He served as a Drill Sergeant and Medical Corpsman during WWII in the European theatre including England, France and 97th General Hospital in Germany from 1942 until 1946.
After the war, he started his own construction business building and remodeling homes.
Ed played Semi-pro football in West Haven, CT as well as being an avid bowler, hunter, golfer and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Robert Root, wife Joan, of Milford daughter Susan Root Cipolla of Durham, NC. Grandchildren, Victoria, Jeffrey, Patrick, and James Root, and Michael and Kristen Ryan. Great Grandchildren, Arianna Lynn, Melanie Brooke, and Abigail Paige.
He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
